Legend Of Cianjur

Legend Of Cianjur

Once upon a time, there was a farmer named Pak Pelit. Pak Pelit was the head of the village and he was also the richest man there. He owned alot of paddy fields. All the villagers worked as farmers for him, because they did not have their own paddy fields.

The villagers called him Pak Pelit because he was very stingy and selfish. What did Pak Pelit think was only his belonging and his wealthy. Pak Pelit had a son, his name was Budiman. Unlike Pak Pelit, Budiman was very generous to the villager. That's why people called him Budiman.

It was harvest time. According to their belief, the villagers had to hold a party to welcome the harvest. If not, the harvest would fail. They would not have good rice. The farmers then asked Pak Pelit to hold a party. At first Pak Pelit didn't agree. But he was afraid, he would not get good rice.

Then they had a party. Suddenly an old woman came and asked for some food. Budiman saw her, then he secretly took some food and gave it to the old woman. Because if Pak Pelit knew that Budiman gave some food to people, Pak Pelit would be angry.

Nobody knew that the old woman had a supernatural power. She then stamped her foot on the ground .The place where the old woman stamped up, slowly water came out. More and more water came out. Budiman asked his father to saved himself. But Pak Pelit didn't want to do it. He wanted to save his belongings first. Budiman then asked the villagers to go to the higher ground.

Water was now high. Pak Pelit and his belongings were down in the water. Budiman and the villagers were sad. Their village now gone and became a lake. Budiman suggested the villagers to live their new place. He also suggested the people to use the water in the lake as source of the irrigation for their paddy fields.

The farmers worked hard for. They produced rice with good quality. More and more people came and live there. The village now became a town. They called it Cianjur. Ci means water and anjur means suggestion. The villagers were thankful to Budiman's suggestion.
